Further to last week's news that Dennis Bergkamp was all set to travel to Lyon for
this week's Champs League game, it's now being reported that
Arsène Wenger has told him not to bother.
It is a slightly surprising decision, given that Bergkamp has been finding his form, that the following game isn't till Sunday, and that as European destinations go,
this one is relatively easy to drive to.
But it shouldn't be seen as a snub, which is how many reports are portraying it.
Dennis played the full 90 minutes against Ipswich on Saturday, and will presumably feature in the big FA Cup tie
against Chelsea next Sunday. We have 4 top strikers and they can't all be used for every match. Henry looked sharp when he came off the bench on Saturday, and Kanu didn't play at all.
As Wenger has pointed out, he could hardly ask Dennis to drive to Lyon only to leave him out. |
