Having confused things previously over the question of whether
Silvinho was going to the States for the Brasil friendlies (see
here), I'm now pleased to be able to complicate things further.
Arsenal have now asked Brasil to release Silvinho from the Wednesday game against Mexico, so that he can play for us on Tuesday against Spartak. Apparently the worst has happened,
and Ashley Cole is doubtful for the match with an ankle problem.
Arsene Wenger has said, "We still have a small hope that Ashley Cole will be fit for
tomorrow but I will try to get Silvinho back. I don't think he will be allowed
to come but we will ask."
Le Boss is particularly narked because Roberto Carlos
and Rivaldo were allowed to stay in Spain at the weekend to play in the Real-Barca match.
If neither Cole nor Silvinho are available, we will probably see
Nelson Vivas play at left back again. He did fine on Saturday for half an hour, against a demoralised and injury-ravaged West Ham side who'd already lost the game. Much as I admire Nelson's
attitude and ability, left back is probably the least comfortable position we've put him in. |
