Bayern (1) - (0) Arsenal
HALF-TIME REPORT
(2nd half here)
Arsenal:
Seaman
Dixon Adams Grimandi Cole
Pires Vieira Lauren Ljungberg
Kanu Henry
Bayern are leading through an Elber goal scored
after 10 minutes. Lizarazu hit a great cross from
the left and Elber popped up unmarked in front of
goal to stoop and head past Seaman. Well, I say "unmarked".
Grimandi was reasonably well placed to intercept the cross
but ducked under it. God knows what he thought he was doing.
Either he didn't know Elber was there or he though Adams was backing up, but Adams had stayed out playing for offside.
Bayern's passing has been much better. Arsenal's has
mostly been poor, and there isn't much space on the pitch.
But Arsenal have
been getting into the game more towards the end of the half.
The only good chance we've created (barring a couple of
wild and high blasts from distance by Dixon and Ljungberg)
was when Henry put the ball in the net after a nice move.
But he was offside as Kanu played the ball into the
box for him.
It's been getting a bit testy towards the end of the half.
There was a spell with one dodgy challenge coming hot on the
heels of the last, from both sides. Then Jeremies got really
angry with Ashley Cole after what appeared to be not such a
bad tackle. Jeremies ran towards Cole, who was walking away,
and as Kuffour came across to calm him down Jeremies
appeared to spit at the Arsenal player.
Seaman had to make a couple of good saves, one from an Elber shot
after Elber's ball to the left-hand side of the box beat the offside
and put the Brasilian clear. Dave managed to turn the near-post shot
into the side-netting. The other save came from Grimandi after 5
minutes when the defender tried to control a cross, facing
the goal, and very nearly turned it past Seaman with a clumsy
double-touch.
Scholl was wrongly given offside after being put clear on the right
hand side of the box.
Meanwhile in Moscow Spartak are leading through a 5th minute
penalty (concede by Edmilson). At the other end Anderson has missed a good chance.

second half report.
