Arsenal (1) 2 - 1 (0) Panathinaikos
Highbury, Tuesday 16th October 2001
UEFA Champions League, stage 1 match 4
Thsi win, together with Real Mallorca's surprising
4-0 home loss to Schalke, gives us a better chance of
going through than any of us would have hoped for this
morning. In fact, if we beat Mallorca next week by
2 goals, or by 1 goal to nil, I reckon we're virtually
through with a game to spare! See table and try to work it out for yourselves...

Highlights:
- 2 goals from Thierry Henry (the first set up by
classic Vieira tackle and pass, the second a perfectly taken penalty),
- a great home debut from
Richard Wright (including a penalty save),
- another assured
performance from Matty Upson (barring the penalty he gave
away) who kept Keown out tonight,
- Sol Campbell's best game
for Arsenal so far,
- an imperious display from Vieira,
- and another impressive gymnastics display from the Greek team.
