Many thanks to Spanish correspondent Julio for the following translation of an article in today's Diario AS.
The manager of Deportivo's rivals, Arsène Wenger, could not be better informed about Deportivo. This is because the spy that Arsenal have
in Spain and Portugal is Francis Cagigao, a 32 year old former player who is now the manager of Lemos, a 3rd division side in Galicia.
"I consider myself as somebody who watches teams, not a technical adviser as such. I've been doing this for Arsenal for 3 years. My job
involves assessing the play and potential of Arsenal's rivals (in Spain and Portugal) and tell the club about the possible game plays that
they can use. I also edit and send videos of to Arsenal. During a year I could see around 60 live games and watch quite a number of
videos."
A former junior player at the English club, Francis left the professional game to become a coach and be Arsenal's eyes and ears in Spain
and Portugal. Thanks to this, Wenger is well informed on Depor.
"Needless to say he is a manager who knows world football. What I do
is pass him information that keeps him up to date. Two years ago [Deportivo] had a lot of potential and now they are realising that. They
are more of a team and have one of the strongest squads in Europe."
Also there's this interview with Le Boss, again translated by Julio.
As: Lendorio (Depor Chairman) has already said that this group has teams which are equal. Do you think the same?
AW: He is right. This group has the league leaders of Spain and Germany, as well as Juventus and Arsenal, which are at the top of their
leagues and will fight for their own championships.
As: In your opinion, what has changed at Depor in the last 2 years?
AW: They were already a good team back then when we last played. They haven't had that many changes in their squad. Perhaps back
then they didn't have as much confidence as they do now. But they were already a good side.
As: Djalminha and Grimandi were involved in an incident last time. Do you think that if they meet again, something will happen?
AW: I don't think so. What happened then was an accident. For me the red card that Djalminha received was harsh. The worse thing was
that it really did affect their game, as they ended up loosing 5-1.
As: Have you decided if Henry will be playing?
AW: There are still some doubts about him. He will work on that today and we will make a decision tomorrow (yesterday) as to whether he will be fit
to play.
