UEFA has announced that it is to continue with the existing format for the Champions League competition, despite opposition voiced recently within the game to the second group phase. The current 32-team format will remain until at least 2005/6.
A meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee also named Old Trafford as the venue for next season's Champions League final, with Seville hosting the UEFA Cup final.
Switzerland was named the host of the forthcoming 2002 Under-21 championships... and the meeting backed Kazakhstan's application for UEFA membership, which will be ratified in April next year.
