Depor, Juve: both resting stars by Rupe

Arsenal's Champions League hopes are raised somewhat by the news from Italy that Juventus are likely to field virtually a reserve side in their last match in this season's competition.

Del Piero and Thuram are out injured, and coach Marcello Lippi has reportedly decided that since Juve are already eliminated from the CL, next weekend's Serie A match against Parma takes priority.

Soccernet reckon that other big names likely to be rested include keeper Buffoon and the full-backs Birindelli and Pessotto.

According to the Standard, Bayer Leverkusen coach Klaus Toppmoller has been angered by the reports. But UEFA confirm that they are powerless to prevent weak teams beinf fielded, so long as all the players are in the club's 25-strong squad (nominated for the CL at the start of the season).

Arsenal fans just have to hope that Deportivo field as strong a side as possible. And thais is where the good news ends because if TeamTalk are to be believed, that won't be the case. Coach Victor Irrureta is quoted as having said on Sunday, "There will probably be a lot of rotation, I don't know whether it'll be seven, eight or nine changes, but there'll be plenty." Two changes on the right hand side will be forced since full-back Lionel Scaloni and winger Victor Sanchez are suspended. Mauro Silva could play though, he doesn't need resting for the weekend's league match against Tenerife, because he's banned from that one anyway.

At the end of the day, if Depor's side isn't good enough to stop the German's winning, Juve might as well field a team of potatoes (and potatoes that aren't very good at football, even for potatoes) for all the good it'll do us.

Arsenal are doing without Dennis Bergkamp. Dennis offered to travel but seeing as Henry is available in Europe but banned from Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final, it was decided to leave him at home.

Ashley Cole has however gone to Italy. Although he hasn't played for ages, he is required as cover for stand-in left back Lauren. The defence is looking as depleted as ever, with Igors Stepanovs joining the list of injured centrebacks with the hip problem which saw him come off at half-time against Villa. Tony Adams is not being risked, so Gilles Grimandi could partner Sol Campbell tomorrow. But the Moose is more likely, with Lauren and Dixon on the flanks.
