Our French Newsreel correspondent JFD has provided
a comprehensive factfile and squad guide about Auxerre,
our opponents in the next 2 Champs League games (includign
this Wednesday).
See Arsenal vs Auxerre page for the factfile, Auxerre links, and reminders
of the other meetings between the clubs in the 1995 Cup-Winners Cup (remember that away goal by Wrighty...?)
It looks like Auxerre's main striker Djibril Cisse is definitely out of this week's game after suffering a setback in his return from a foot injury. Cisse is the bleached-hair youngster who came on as a sub for France at the World Cup.
Arsenal have Bergkamp and Keown out, we don't know yet about Parlour and Edu. Ljungberg was rested on Saturday and will presumably play in France.
Rupe adds...
Tuesday's news is that Ray Parlour is still not fit and
has been left behind as the team fly to Auxerre, along with
the known injuries Dennis Bergkamp and Martin Keown. As expected,
Freddie Ljungberg has made the trip and should play (having only missed the weekend fun against Leeds due to being rested). Edu is back in contention again, although it's going to be hard for
him to break into our midfield now (especially given the impact
Kolo Toure is making). Robert Pires has made the journey too,
but he is not ready to play just yet and is just going to
help the
other guys choose the wine.
